- Learn about the basic biology of honey bees and their importance in our agricultural system
- Learn about the challenges—especially common parasites—that honey bees face
- Learn basic stereo microscopy techniques
Activities:
- Lecture: Introduction to honey bees as pollinators and the challenges they face
- Observation Hive: Observe honey bees, in their daily hive activities, on a frame behind glass
- Introduction to microscopy
- Identification of honey bee life stages and castes
- Common honey bee parasite diagnostic techniques
- Identification of honey bee anatomy using stereo microscopes
