  • Learn about the basic biology of honey bees and their importance in our agricultural system
  • Learn about the challenges—especially common parasites—that honey bees face
  • Learn basic stereo microscopy techniques

Activities:

  • Lecture: Introduction to honey bees as pollinators and the challenges they face
  • Observation Hive: Observe honey bees, in their daily hive activities, on a frame behind glass
  • Introduction to microscopy
  • Identification of honey bee life stages and castes
  • Common honey bee parasite diagnostic techniques
  • Identification of honey bee anatomy using stereo microscopes
